NEWS FLASH: BIS Notification under Scheme X Rescinded

New Delhi: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has officially rescinded the earlier notification issued under the Machinery and Electrical Equipment Safety (Omnibus Technical Regulation) Order, 2024, with immediate effect from 14th January, 2026. The said Omnibus has been rescinded taking into consideration the larger public interest and support the heavy machinery industry in India.

The withdrawal nullifies the previously announced implementation framework and compliance requirements proposed under the said Omnibus.

Background:

This Omnibus was originally notified in August 2024, the implementation was initially set for August 2025 and later extended to September 2026.

Key Take – Aways:

Manufacturers, importers, and conformity assessment bodies will receive temporary regulatory relief. However, organizations are advised to retain preparedness, as BIS may reintroduce Scheme X through a revised notification.
