Matteo Zhi, the global Equity Partner at D’Andrea & Partners Legal Counsel, is responsible for operations in China. He provides expert advisory services to clients on various legal matters and business transactions, including those with a cross-border element. His areas of specialization include cross-border investments (FDI & ODI), mergers & acquisitions, international trade, corporate law, anti-trust, IPR protection, and dispute resolution. Matteo obtained his law degree from the University of Nanjing, after which he was awarded a master’s degree in Corporate Advisory (Giurista d’impresa) from Roma Tre University and Juris Master from the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Koguan Law School.

Matteo is a sought-after speaker and author, having made speeches at various seminars on investment topics in Italy and published a range of articles on Sino-Italian legal affairs. He fluently speaks Chinese, English, and Italian, making him one of the few Chinese lawyers who can work in Italian. Matteo advises over 100 Italian multinationals, including the country’s largest state-owned enterprise, Leonardo Group, Serie A football club, Naples, the furniture company Cassina – Poltrona Frau, and luxury racing car producer Maserati, on their investments in China. He also advises Italian institutions such as the General Consulate of Italy in Shanghai and the Italian Trade Agency in China.

Apart from Italian entities, Matteo also assists Chinese enterprises in their investments in Italy, including OPPEIN group in acquiring FORMER S.r.l. in Milan, and provides consultancy to Dongpeng Ceramics, Jinko Solar, Lenovo Group, Kehua Holding, among others. Additionally, he also assists the biggest private group of India, TATA Group, the leading Indian carmaker BAJAJ, and the American automotive engineering company PAC, on their legal affairs in China.

In May 2020, Matteo was awarded as one of the TOP 10 young lawyers of Yangpu District, Shanghai Municipality, and was nominated as a Qualified Lawyer specialized in Foreign Related Legal Affairs by the Shanghai Bar Association in the same year.
