Resumption of Indian Tourist Visa Services for Chinese Citizens

On July 23, 2025, the Indian Embassy in Beijing officially announced that India will resume issuing tourist visas to Chinese citizens starting July 24, 2025, following a hiatus of five years.

The reopening of visas shall promote cultural diplomacy and people-to-people contact and mutual exchanges between the two countries. Considered as a “Positive Move”, the resumption indicates a softer bilateral approach contributing to India’s tourism revenue.

The process for making such application is retained as earlier, wherein the applicant shall be required to fill the online visa application form, print it, schedule an appointment and submit the application in person along with the necessary documents such as passports, photos, and supporting documents with the designated Indian Visa Application Centers in Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou.

The resumption of services applies only to tourist visas at the moment, following to the resumption of business e‑visas for Chinese nationals in August 2024.

With travel resumed, Chinese tourists can engage in cultural exchanges, exploring India’s rich spiritual and historical heritage—pilgrimages, classical arts, and education tourism—strengthening mutual understanding.
