Shanghai: the new traffic regulation will take effect

A new traffic regulation will take effect tomorrow in Shanghai and more cameras will be added to target drivers in the hope of improving road safety, according to the police.

Using mobile phones will soon be illegal at all: according to the new regulation, in Shanghai it will be illegal not only answering and making phone call, but using the phone at all. That means using WeChat, playing games, taking photos… And driver and passengers will be fined up to 50RMB if not wearing seatbelts. Adults must wear them as well as children under the age of four. To ensure child safety, children under the age of 12 will be not allowed to sit on the front passenger seat. Violators will be fined up to 200RMB and their driving license will be suspended for up to three months.

There will be enforced new speed restrictions: a 60 km/h limit on roads with two or more lanes; 80 km/h on bigger roads. And there will be fine of 200RMB for those who drive cutting two lanes continuously.

On the bright side, all vehicles will be allowed to drive in bus lanes during weekends and public holidays.

Last but not least, private parking spaces in front of hotels will be gradually removed.
