Alipay is now available across Italy

By removing currency, cultural, language barriers between Chinese tourists and Italian merchants, started from April, 2017, for the first time in Italy, Alipay, the most widespread Chinese mobile payment platform and Unicredit, the Italian Bank, signed new partnership to enable payments directly by using the app.

According to the Unicredit, the two are using the SIA technological infrastructure to launch Alipay payments with 120,000 merchants spreading across Italy. Among them, a number of well-known Italian outlets are putting the platform in use, including Eataly, Antonia, Morellato, and Pisa Orologeria.

Italy is the second most popular destination in Europe and one of the top ten destinations in the world for Chinese tourists. This partnership with the Italian bank Unicredit is able to provide a huge opportunity for Italian businesses and accommodate Chinese tourists to purchase Italian goods and services, as well as profoundly enlarge Alipay’s user amount.
